April 20, 2002 was National AstroDay. The Hilo Astronomy Club, in conjunction with the various observatories on Mauna Kea and range of other groups organized a public event in the Prince Kuhio Plaza. The range of displays and activities was outstanding, resulting in a 13% increase in "traffic" in the Mall that day. See their Web site: http://www.astroday.net In fact, the event (the first ever in Hilo) was so successful that it has won the national Astronomy Day Award for the most successful AstroDay on 2002. This reflects the enormous amount of work that Gary Fujihara from Subaru put into organizing the event - he is to be congratulated for his efforts ! Josh Goldston, Alison Peck and Hiroko Shinnaga represented the SMA - Josh created an impressive movie of shots of the SMA and related topics. Many thanks to these 3 for their efforts !
